On the trail of Holmes – Watson in Paris

Le Parapluis de Feu

Le Parapluis de Feu

Went to Paris in pursuit of Holmes after one of my sources reported a possible sighting of my friend feeding the ducks in the Jardin du Luxembourg.  Alas the fates were not on my side Рhaving already lost my umbrella over the side of the ferry I arrived at the popular beauty spot hoping to find Holmes but instead found only a mime artist performing a routine with some model mallards.

My hopes were raised once again when I thought I caught glimpse of Holmes’ silhouette smoking on the viewing platform of the Eiffel Tower. ¬†After taking several hours negotiating the 650 steps I was disappointed to find that the smoking figure was in fact my missing umbrella set alight by urchins.

My run of bad luck then continued further courtesy of my rusty French. Intending to order two small cognacs I inadvertently purchased a small failing vineyard in the Provence region.  Mrs Hudson, who has always dreamed of such a venture, was moved to tears Рas was my  accountant.

The Cycle Diaries – My Holiday in Peru

Patient patients await Dr Watson's arrival at his practice

Patient patients await Dr Watson's arrival at his practice

Just arrived back from a wonderful jaunt across Peru.  Many of you know that I had been rather miserable of late and have been struggling to keep up with things here in London.  My practice has been ever so busy and it has forced me to face some fundamental facts of life Рnamely that I should go there once in a while.

The old Afghan leg has also been giving me jip again and has started to freeze up in awkward places.  Last month I was responsible for a major delay to the Paddington service as I got it wedged in the buffet car.

And thus, inspired by Mr Bingham’s recent discovery of the ancient city of Machu Picchu, I packed my bags for South America, which fortunately was where I was heading. ¬†I also wanted to follow up on a rumour that Holmes had been spotted picking flowers among the Inca ruins.

Sadly no sign of Holmes but I did get the opportunity to sample some of the local cuisine. Guinea pig and Alpaca were particularly agreeable although I was less impressed by the raw fish delicacy known as ceviche Рseeing as Mrs Hudson has been serving me raw fish for years.  Photographs to follow (of the holiday, not raw fish).
